a barrel of this: house Our House

Homeowners insurance

Posted by K Tue, 06 Dec 2005 17:41:00 GMT

Just got off the phone with USAA and am trying to understand the fun and delightful world of homeowners insurance. More info here.

Also, think about the stuff here.

Things we need to find out for a better estimate:

1- is there a firewall between us and next door?
2- what amperage is the house?
3- what pipe material is the house?

According to the inspection binder, the amperage is 150 amps at the service entrance and main panel. The firewall was not marked as being damaged or missing so hopefully that means it is there.

The pipes are copper at the service entrance and for the interior service. The public waste disposal “waste lines” are a mix of cast iron, galvanized (steel?), and plastic. But I don’t think those are our responsibility. At least, I hope not.

We are glad to pop your blog cherry, Kristaps!

You are tempting me with the dual-dishwasher thing. And man, if we could afford central vacuum, I would be there.

I will definitely check out Fine Homebuilding. I have yet to find a magazine that is really good, but I haven’t looked seriously. I am all about the DIY, as long as it isn’t too scary or with potential for huge disaster.

Just promise me you will help Matt lay flooring in the basement! I hear you are good at that.
