More local excitement

Well, the Shopping Cart o’ Trash is only a hollow memory, since it is now empty (albeit still in the alley, waiting to be filled up with more trash!) but the Enormo Bin in our alley is still there, overflowing and disgusting. I guess I will make the second call to 727-1000 next week and give them my “tracking number” for the issue. The whole tracking number thing cracks me up, since the woman I talked to last time couldn’t tell me what, when, or how the problem was going to be solved. I am very glad that they are tracking the ambiguity!

Today’s excitement is the cop sitting in the alley putting a big old damper on the drug-dealing fun that seems to usually be going on out there. I guess there was a complaint (I went out earlier to be annoyed at the Comcast man who was taking down our connection every three minutes, and it seemed to be a festival of activity, so I am not surprised that there was a call).

While I am glad that the cops finally showed up on a day when they will hurt business, this doesn’t seem to do much, since by sitting in the alley with their lights on they are just announcing themselves to the people who are doing the dealing (the dealers have a pretty good view of that usual spot from where they hang out). Things get very quiet while the cops are sitting there, but once the cops leave it will start up again within minutes. I mean, I guess it is a temporary deterrent, but nothing permanent comes of it. Even though the cop did just zoom around with his lights on and siren and that was a little exciting.

In other exciting news, I didn’t mention that I went to The Stripping Workshop earlier this week, which was VERY exciting. It’s out on New York Ave behind Maurice Electrical and you have to walk down a parking lot/alley and poke around on a loading dock before you can see the tattered piece of paper that announces The Stripping Workshop, in the basement. It’s a crazy place filled with all kinds of vats and chemicals and noise. But I think they are going to dip and strip and then clearcoat our radiators (we could get them painted, too, but the clearcoat is so pretty). I have been dreaming of also taking our medicine cabinet to them and having them stick it in a vat of something to make it all clean, like magic. I went at part of it with Peel Away again the other night, and it didn’t seem to do much. Not enough to make me think this isn’t going to be a royal pain.
